Membership Types

You are a Principal full member if you are the first individual employed by an organization whose primary business is development, ownership, asset management or investment in industrial, office, mixed-use or related commercial real estate.

You are a Principal Affiliate member if you are the second or third individual employed by the Principal firm, whose primary business is development, ownership, asset management or investment in industrial, office mixed-use or related commercial real estate, where all members belong to the same chapter. Developing Leaders do not qualify as the second or third members.

You are an Associate Full member if you are the first individual employed by a company or organization who provides products or services to the industrial, office, mixed-use or related commercial real estate firm.

You are an Associate Affiliate member if you are the second or third individual employed by the Associate firm who provides products or services to the industrial, office, mixed-use or related commercial real estate firm, where all members belong to the same chapter. Developing Leaders do not qualify as the second or third members.

You are eligible for a Developing Leader membership if you are 35 years or younger and are a developer, owner, investor, asset manager or providing services in commercial real estate.

Note: NAIOP Developing Leader membership is excluded from qualifying a company for a chapter-based corporate membership.

You are eligible for chapter-based corporate membership if you are the fourth or subsequent individual employed by the Associate or Principal firm and all firm members belong to or are joining the same chapter.

Chapter-based corporate membership consists of one full member, two affiliate members and at least one corporate affiliate member. Your company will save a minimum of $150 in membership dues every time an additional member is added to your corporate membership. The average dues per person decreases as more members join the same chapter from the same company.

All members in the corporate membership receive all membership benefits, through NAIOP Corporate and the chapter, including a subscription to Development magazine, online access to the members' only section of the website and member discounts on all products, services and event registration fees.

New individuals can be added to your chapter-based corporate membership at any time during the year. Their membership expiration date becomes that of the corporate membership. Substitutions can be made for individuals included in the corporate membership if they leave or are no longer interested in membership in NAIOP. To do this, Please contact a Member Services Specialist by telephone at 800-456-4144, by fax at 703-904-7942 or by email to membership@naiop.org

Renewal dues for a corporate membership (a company with 4 or more members with the same primary chapter) are invoiced as a group and sent to the company’s full member. The dues amount shown on the invoice is based on the total members within the company. Individual dues amounts are not listed on the invoice since the deep discount involved with the 4th and additional members is not valid should your company fall below the minimum requirement of 4 members. Rates for any given individual may change if there are reductions in the number of members within a company

Note: Massachusetts requires one full and four (4) affiliate members before the chapter-based corporate membership is granted to the fifth member. NAIOP Developing Leaders membership is excluded from qualifying a company for a chapter-based corporate membership.

You are eligible for Full Public Official membership if you are an individual employed by a local, state or federal government or a non-profit organization.

You are eligible for Affiliate Public Official membership if you are the second or subsequent person from the same organization joining the same chapter as the Full Public Official.

You are eligible for Academician membership if you are a full-time professor who is not otherwise employed in the industrial, office, mixed-use or related commercial real estate industry.

You are eligible for Student membership if you are a full-time student who is not otherwise employed, except on a part-time or temporary basis (internship, temporary employment, limited employment, etc.).

Note: Following graduation, a student will no longer be able to renew membership through the student membership program, but will retain the membership through their expiration date. If, after graduation, you are qualified to continue membership in another membership category, you will be contacted by NAIOP staff and instructed accordingly. This category does not renew automatically. You will be asked to provide documentation every year.

University membership is available to colleges and universities offering undergraduate and/or graduate programs in real estate. The college/university maintaining a University membership must designate a current employee (not a student) affiliated with the institution to serve as the point of contact for the membership.

Full-time students enrolled and pursuing a real estate degree in a college or university holding a NAIOP membership in this category will receive select NAIOP benefits.

University Membership fees are based on the number of students in your program.
